Fresh Peaches
“Said” Beautiful Peaches

It’s Peach Season!

Picture this— A warm summer day with the hot sun beating down on your hat, hair or sun kissed skin and a beautiful fresh cool peach—juice dripping down your hand and chin- refreshing and oh so delicious.

I could probably just stop there with my post and it would leave you hopefully with a bit of nostalgia about your own peach experiences. I have officially decided that peach season and the peach itself are near the top of my favorite when it comes to fruit. Last year when I was pregnant with our baby I ate so many peaches; probably one a day for close to 2 months. Turns out our little girl loves them too. Could that be why she has strawberry blonde hair- so many peaches? Ha!

This year we have almost went through 3, wait 4, boxes of peaches. Here are the many ways that we enjoy them:

  • Eaten Fresh/Sliced With a meal or as a snack.
  • Peach Pie One of our favorite pies in our family.
  • Peach Jam We found that putting peach jam in oatmeal is really good.
  • Canned Peaches Would you ever think that canning lids could be so hard to find!
  • Chopped up in Greek yogurt This is how our little girl eats them.

Let’s look at the nutrition benefits of a peach…

I have continuing education that I have been researching and starting on to keep my registration as a dietetic technician. I thought in honor of that I would include some nutrition benefits of the peach with this post.

Have a serving (1 cup) of peach and this is what you will get

A low fat snackLess than a 1/2 gram of fat
Serving of fruit rich in a variety of vitamins and mineralsTo name a couple Vitamin A and Potassium
Vitamin A – Also known as the Vitamin to help vison- the “carrot” vitamin if you will.Good for cell growth, vision and a healthy immune system
PotassiumHelps regulate fluid balance with sodium as its partner
Excellent for most digestive tractsJust over 2 grams of dietary fiber

I’m all about finding ways for good foods to be as convenient as possible. I believe fruit is God’s way of providing us with something delicious that is good for us. Fruit is really quite the gift. Tasty and nutrient dense all in one!

Looking for peaches to be more convenient? Don’t bother peeling the peach; just wash it and eat it whole (this can lead to more chin dripping goodness) or sliced. It’s easier to leave the skin on and the skin is good for you too!

Other than peaches, grain has been getting hauled, the combine tuned up, fields are ripening, wheat is being swathed, landscaping is happening in our yard, the chicken coop shingled, and the beginnings of a chicken yard are happening. Oh and garden produce is in full swing. Until next time; find yourself a peach to enjoy! Thanks for reading!

Can you spot the bug enjoying the sunset?
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. Genesis 1:29

  1. Well, now I want to run out and get some sweet, juicy peaches myself. When we were kid s we ate canned peaches with crushed soda crackers and cream on them.

  2. I had to laugh, when I saw the bug! Just made peach jam at the cafe yesterday! Slathered a piece of Sourdough toast with it. Mighty tasty!
